Tomorrow Boro are set to play Wrexham at home. I am a bit worried if I am honest. They are going to come at us all guns blazing. They know we are on a bit of an edge at the moment so they are going to try and use that to their advantage.
I am going to watch the game with a Wrexham fan as well. I do fear that a little. I know whoever gets the win is going to get very cocky!
I hope Boro get the win, not only so I can boast, but because I think the players really need a win right now. It will give everyone the chance to settle their nerves and get their confidence back. There has been a lot going on with the players at the moment with players coming in and the transfer listing of my Boro fave’s – Martin and Macca. I imagine they won’t play on Saturday now. I sort of knew deep down that Martin probably wouldn’t play but McMahon I thought would have been given a chance.
Whether the new players will play I don’t know. It would be good to see what they are made of but this is a massive game for us. We have to win, and with Wrexham having two games in hand it is essential that we get the points and stay with the pack.
I hope I will have a joyous post on Monday, but I am not sure whether I will or not. As I predicted in the podcast that we broadcasted this week, I think it will be 2-2. I would be happy with a draw. I think a 2-2 draw would be better than a 0-0 draw. Goals bring confidence and it can show teams your ability, so we definitely have to get some goals in the back of the net.
Hopefully Boro will make everyone happy and win.
Fingers crossed and all that.
I have had time to think since yesterday, I feel a bit calmer about things now. It still angers me that both of them have been put on the transfer list, don’t get me wrong, but I can sort of see why he has done it.
The balance hasn’t been right, we all know that, and I think McMahon and Martin have just been the subject of a difficult time at Boro. Martin has struggled this season, but he still will always give 110%. McMahon I was more surprised about. He has worked really hard this season, and sometimes we have become reliant on his deliveries for goals.
I can understand when Graham has said that they deserve not to be on the bench every game, but they are not good enough for our starting 11. With players like Mitchell and Bostwick it is going to be hard for them to compete, but I still think they both could have parts to play.
We know something isn’t right, but I am not sure if putting them on the transfer list is going to help. I know we have to put someone on the list if we are to bring in new players but would it not be better to put people like Christie on the list, who have no part in our squad at the moment?
GW has said that more will go on the list, so whether Christie etc will go on the list I don’t know. It is loan deadline day today, so I think we are likely to see some new players come in before 5 pm today.
We are going to provide updates on the comet website today, so hopefully we can keep you posted with any movement going on.
Who knows who we may get or leave, I just hope that Boro get their confidence back, and fast.
I am shocked and appalled of what I have just heard. My previous post was trying to look at the positive things with Westley and the team. My positiveness is dwindling quite significantly now.
Westley has just announced that he has transfer listed McMahon and Martin. My two favourite players. Are you having a laugh? They both work ridiculous hard and give their all for the team. They provide sparks when we need it, and they are both really nice lads.
I can’t believe it. I actually can’t. I know they fight for places in the team but when they play I really do rate them. Both McMahon and Martin have been excellent in the earlier part of the season, and sometimes we have relied on them to give us energy and a spark.
I know Westley is trying to sort out the club, but these are two Boro favourites. Surely he must realise this is going to cause uproar. I have tried to stand by him but I am finding it increasingly hard.
If he makes some cracking signings I might be a bit more forgiving, but right now I am still in the heat of the moment, and I am angry.
There has been a lot of negativity about and surrounding the club at the moment.
I don’t quite know how to take it all. Do I agree with it or should I try and stay positive as that is the most important thing for the team?
I agree with points that with the players that we should have we should be doing miles better than we actually are. The performance against Histon was shocking, and I couldn’t take any positives from the game afterwards.
I don’t think I was the only one either. People have now started to point the finger at Westley, and to be honest I am finding myself do something similar. But at the same time I think to myself, we need to stand by him and the players. The last thing you want is for the players to get more demoralised than they already are. But then I think everyone is just worried that we may slip back into old ways.
I don’t like hearing boos at the end of the game, but at the same time I want to shake them and say “buck your ideas up laddy”! I am sure the players can hear everything that is said to them and the boos can’t help at all.
I remember when I went to Stoke to see spurs lose and fans were booing at the end of the game. My mum started yelling at people telling them to stop because the players looked heart broken. I always think of this when I hear fans doing this to our lads. Some of them will play their absolute heart out, and to hear boos must be soul destroying.
As much as I feel like booing the team myself, you have to hold it in. I do understand why fans do it. How many other ways are there to show your discontent?
Don’t get me wrong, I shout and scream at them like the best of them, but booing is just a step too far. You have to support your manager and players until you are told to do otherwise, even if it is not a happy time. Grit your teeth and bare it, I say.
I don’t know what is going on with Boro at the moment. I know Burton are doing well in the league but another defeat is just not going to help matters.
I don’t understand why Morison was dropped to the bench. I know he hasn’t been at his best at the moment but he is still top scorer and can still bury a ball into the net with a blink of an eye.
Although i suppose you can argue that he should have scored the penalty. We had a chance to get back in the game, but we just couldn't do it. The players seem to be losing confidence and despite having quite a few shots on goal, we just couldn't get the ball in the net. We need to be taking chances, especially away from home.
After Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Burton we have now slipped down the table to 12th place. Boro need to shape up and fast. We will not reach the play-offs losing to the teams around us. We can’t just beat teams who are lower than us, we need to beat teams who are fighting for promotion as well.
Luckily for us the league is still very tight at the moment, but we have some very big fixtures coming up, including Wrexham at home on Saturday. They will not give us an easy game, that’s for sure. They are two points above us, but they have 2 games in hand. If we are really truly thinking about promotion and play-offs, we have to win this fixture. No matter what.
Boro are set to play Burton away tomorrow. Burton are currently third in the league so we have another tough test on our hands.
Considering our performances against Histon and Northwich, I don’t think Boro are going to find this an easy game at all.
They are going to have to battle hard, really hard. The players just can’t seem to perform at the moment; I don’t know what has got into them. We have great potential, and a great squad. I just don’t understand why we haven’t been performing lately.
Burton are going to know that we are in a bit of a dip at the moment, and they are going to do their best to come at us and make it difficult for us. It will be made even harder by the fact we are away from home.
I just don’t know how we are going to win tomorrow. I hope the lads can turn it around and prove me wrong, but morale seems really low and it is just not ‘clicking.’
An early goal would be crucial for us. It is essential that we score first to even give us a shot in winning the game.
We are going to be without Lawrie Wilson after his sending off, which is a real shame because he has been playing really well. I hope Drury is included. I think he provides a touch of class to the team. But he was left out on Tuesday despite him being fully fit, so I don’t know what went on there.
For those of you going to the game, I hope we win for your sakes. I hope I can post on Monday morning and be able to be positive and use the words ‘onwards and upwards’, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Fingers crossed. X
I can’t get over last night. It was awful. Shockingly awful. I don’t understand how we can’t play football anymore. We couldn’t even do the simple stuff of retrieving the ball and passing it to a Boro player.
I am trying to stay positive, but I can’t. It is not like me to be negative, I always try to see the good, but I am sorry there are no positives to come out of that game.
I didn’t even have to look at the game to tell you what happened. We’d have the ball, pass it aimlessly, they would attack. We’d get the ball or win it back, and pass it out of play.
We looked so dodgy at the back it was ridiculous. You could tell Westley was disappointed with Saturday’s result, so he changed the team, but it didn’t seem to make a blind bit of difference.
The fact Histon scored within the first few minutes of the game summed it up for me. Even after the equaliser I didn’t think the players had enough belief in them to even warrant a fair go at the game.
To be fair to Histon, they did play well. They closed down the ball quickly, and made it difficult for us. I wouldn’t have minded if it looked like Boro were actually playing well and we lost. But we lost with no passion and desire to win the game.
McMahon was trying wayyyy to hard. God knows how many tricks he attempted in that game. Morison and Boylan didn’t seem to have the same ideas last night at all, and Luke was at his best – hit and hope.
The one player who seemed to be trying hard was Martin. But even he wasn’t at his best. He was jumping for headers and really trying. Yet he is 4ft nothing. So why is he the only one who is trying for the ball in the air?
I don’t understand what happened last night. We have a good team, we are a good team. But we just were a nothing team yesterday.
Something has got to change. Even the subs were lack lustre. Mitchell barely got on the ball and Black was just in no mans land. Calum looked like he was trying, but the service was so appalling that he had no chance.
To be honest with the final score to be 3-1, we were lucky. We deserved to lose more than that. I don’t know where we go from here, but hopefully we will change. Otherwise I fear that we could lose another manager.
Boro have Histon at home tonight. It is pretty much a must win game for us following the game on Saturday.
I hope we win. I think there will be uproar if we don’t. A draw on Saturday was frankly not good enough. The players have a lot to prove, and what with the league being so tight this year, it is essential that we try and get as many points as possible.
Histon are currently sitting in third place in the table with 34 points, where as we are sitting in ninth with 28 points.
We really need to join up with the teams in the top part of the table. We could have the chance of going 7th tonight so we must aim to get the win.
It isn’t going to be easy, but hopefully we can get another good result and get back to our winning ways again.
More and more of the squad are returning from injury and other players should be reaching peak fitness, so this really is the time to get some good results and push on up in the league.
I wasn’t at the game on Saturday as I was at Fulham watching spurs lose, (but we won’t talk about that, so swiftly moving on…), I was really disappointed to see the result on Saturday.
My other half and our friends went, and I think the overall consensus was disappointment and frustration. The fact we had gone 1-0 down to Northwich isn’t exactly mind blowingly good news, and the fact we only drew with a team that we should have comfortably have beat worries me.
Whether the lads needed a game to get back into the grind following the FA Cup hype, I don’t know. But we really should win games like this.
The only way to counteract this frustration is to get straight back to winning ways, and that is exactly what we must do tomorrow when we play Histon. Hopefully we will, I just hope we don’t get ourselves in another bad patch…
If anyone else can send me their views on the Northwich game, I will be very interested in reading them. Just email me comments to catherine.gill@archant.co.uk.
Thanks!
So now that the Leicester game is over and done with, I am having more time to reflect on the game. I think we played really well, and I still stand by my decision not to be disappointed. Ok, well it is a bit disappointing, but I would rather see us do well in the league and FA Trophy as we have a real chance of actually do well in both competitions.
I think the players have all come out of the game with their heads held high, and many of them would have probably learnt a thing or two from the game. I hope that supporters who had gone to the game on Saturday, who don't normally watch Boro play, think about coming to see them now. There was definitely potential in Boro, and maybe a few people from Leicester will now watch them on TV.
I guess now we just have to focus on winning again in the league. I don’t think the players will be too down in the dumps and I am sure they are ready to kick on in the league.
We have Northwich next, so hopefully we can get back to our winning ways on Saturday by beating them.
Come on the Boro!
I had a great day out on Saturday. It was a shame that Boro lost, but I think they really did give it their best shot.
There was a great turnout of fans, which is always good to see. Everyone had a really great time, and if we had scored it would have erupted.
The lads put in a great display. In the first half we had the upper hand. They were working their socks off and Moro had a great chance to put us 1 up, but the ball missed the goal, making it miss narrowly wide.
I was absolutely gutted. I knew if we were to have a chance in getting Leicester back to BHW or winning the tie we had to take our chances.
It was a shame to concede before half time, but the Leicester side’s quality started to shine though.
I don’t think 3-0 to Leicester really reflected the game, but once they scored the two other goals in the second half, we just couldn’t play how we wanted to play. They played one touch football and we just struggled to cope with the league 1 side.
I am not disappointed with Boro at all. I expected us to lose, so anything better would have been a bonus, but it would have been amazing if we could have drawn with them. One thing is for sure is that Boro worked their socks off. They played as well as they could play, and now they know what they need to aim for, when striving to become a league side.
Next up Boro have Leicester away in the FA Cup.
I am so excited. I have never been to the Walkers Stadium before. I have driven past it, but never managed to get inside.
It is going to be a really good day out (hopefully all the better with a Boro win), as I am going to catch up with some friends who live in Leicester. It doesn’t take too long to get there, so hopefully that will persuade more people to go to the game.
I hope we take a relatively big crowd. We have 3,100 allocation, so I hope that we take at least half of that.
The team have been playing well of late, and we seem to be scoring quite a few goals which is good, as we may only get a few chances on Saturday, so the lads must take their chances. All it takes is a little mistake at the back from Leicester and we could be well in there.
It is a chance for the players to showcase their skills and prove they can play at a higher level. It is going to be a tight game but I have all faith in them that they can play well and give Leicester a good run at it. It isn’t going to be easy, but hopefully we don’t concede early on, as it will only help them relax more, the longer we keep them out.
I think that there are going to be a few goals on Saturday. If I have to be realistic, everyone will be thinking that we will lose. But in that sense, we have nothing to lose. If we go there and lose, that is what everyone would have expected, if we draw, it would be great for the fans to bring Leicester back to BHW, and if we win, then it will be the shock of the FA Cup.
So fingers crossed and all that, and hopefully we can all have a great day out on Saturday followed by a spectacular win for Boro!
Boro beat Rushden 3-0 last night in the Setanta Shield.
It was a while before we managed to score, but to get three past a strong Rushden side was good.
Drury, Wilson and Thomas managed to net a goal each.
Hopefully we can continue this winning run into Saturday. Even though players were rested, we still had a very good side out.
The starting 11 looked like this:
Boro: Bayes, Bostwick, Oliver, McDevitt, Laird, Drury, Wilson 7, Martin, Burke, Willock, Thomas
We are now still in all cup competitions and have a real good chance at the league. Things are definitely looking up for Boro, and we haven't even peaked yet.
Tonight Boro are set to play Rushden away in the Setanta Shield.
I am not sure what sort of team Westley will put because of our game against Leicester, but even if it isn't our strongest, I am sure they will give Rushden a run for their money. If we can stay in competitions then it can boost the team no end.
For those of you who are going to the game tonight, I hope you enjoy it. It is a nice ground there. I have been a couple of times to watch Boro play and there always seems to be a good atmosphere.
I am a bit surprised that it is not on Setanta. Considering it is their cup you would think they would show a game.
Hopefully we will get another win tonight. Obviously there is more emphasis for Saturday, with it being one of the best cup competitions there is and we are playing a bigger team, but hopefully we will continue to do well tonight and get some more goals under our belt.
Fingers crossed
Boro managed to beat Woking 1-0 on Saturday, and what a great result that was. Boro are now only 5 points off the top of the table and are level on points with Wrexham who are in eighth place.
Judging from the video footage of the game on YouTube, we seemed to have a host of chances, but somehow we just couldn’t score, well until Vincenti scored an absolute cracker.
The ball came out to him and rather than going for the easy option he just hit it into the top right hand corner of the goal.
We had quite a few chances after that and they began to get into the game a bit more.
It looked like a really good game to watch, and hopefully a win against our rivals, will give us even more confidence going into tomorrow’s game against Rushden in the Setanta Shield and our FA Cup clash against Leicester.
