A cracking result, but was made all the sweeter by the other results in the BSP.

Now I know I said I wanted all our rivals to drop points at home, but I didn’t think it would actually happen!

How many of us would have predicted the following?

Oxford 1 – 2 Hayes

Crawley Town 2 – 1 AFC Wimbledon

Kettering 0 – 1 Cambridge Utd

York 1 – 2 Salisbury

The only exception was Luton beating FGR 2-1.

We are now 2 points clear of Oxford, but they still have a game in hand. If we beat them at our place we have such a chance at winning automatic promotion. It is going to be such a tight finish come the end of the season, I don’t know whether I am excited or scared.

Could this be our year?

Who knows, but one thing is for sure, we are certainly doing a good job in helping our quest to play in league 2!

Next up we have Kidderminster away in the Trophy. It will ease the pressure a bit, as we know we have done all we can until our next BSP match, but it is still a big game. A win at Kiddi and we put ourselves in a very good position to be going to Wembley in May.

Just keep winning boys. Only a few more games left and then we could be a league team and trophy holders! I know I shouldn’t look that far ahead, but it is hard! We are doing so well it is difficult to contain my excitement!

Very happy chaps, very happy indeed.

Come on the boro!!!

Great result for Boro

<created>2010-03-08T10:51:00Z</created>

Boro won 2-0 on Saturday against Crawley to go top of the league.

Crawley set out to make it difficult for us. They knew by frustrating us, it would aggravate the team and the crowd etc would get restless. To a certain degree that did happen on Saturday, but I thought we were quite composed and in control throughout.

I thought Chris Beardsley was excellent on Saturday. He put everything into that game. Even at times when arguably the mid field should have been closing down, he got back and did his best to hold them off or steal the ball from there. He really deserved a goal, but at least he managed to get an assist for Lee’s goal.

The first goal came from a Bozzie spectacular. Everyone was shouting for someone to cross the ball. We must have had a good three opportunities to cross it before it came out to Bozzie. I think even then I was shouting to cross it, and then he just hit a peach of a ball towards the goal. I think it was near 30 yards and it went straight into the top left hand corner. I think everyone was in a state of shock, and it took slightly longer to register that it had gone in! Superb strike.

The second goal came very late into the game. 5 minutes injury time was added on which at the time seemed like torture. 1-0’s are never safe and Crawley did come close a couple of times. It must have been about the 94th minute when Chris and Lee managed to break up the field. Beardsley put in a great cross for Lee to control it and pop it into the back of the net.

The three points were in the bag and we were now top of the league as Oxford didn’t play at the weekend. York had lost against FGR and AFC drew with Alty, so we have points gained on them. Luton did their best to throw away an away win after winning 3-2 at Hayes on Saturday.

Next up we have Barrow at home on Tuesday. You’d hope that we could win that, but they can be a good little team, so hopefully if we can score an early goal against them, it will set us on our merry way for another win.

Oxford have Hayes at home, Luton have FGR at home, and York have Salisbury at home. As you can see all of them are at home, so if any of them manage to drop points it will be a major bonus.

Hopefully my next post will be another happy one.

Come on Boro!!

Time to focus

<created>2010-03-05T09:43:00Z</created>

Tomorrow we are set to play Crawley at home, and it is hard not to feel over confident about it after our 6-0 win at Eastbourne on Tuesday night.

I couldn’t believe it as the scores were coming in on Boro Live. Every time I looked back at the screen we had scored another goal. It must have been a great confidence boost for the lads, especially Mitch who came on and got a 6 minute hat trick.

I really hope now though, that we stay focused enough to get the win tomorrow. I think with it being at home, it definitely helps, but you don’t want the team to start getting complacent. Although I think with everything that has happened with Chester, I am sure GW would have installed the right kind of attitude among the players.

Oxford aren’t playing at the weekend, but York are away to Forest Green, Luton are at Hayes & Yeading and Rushden are at Tamworth. You could easily see three draws there, as each team is playing away.

It would be pretty amazing if that did happen, but we can’t really hold out for what other teams are doing. We have just got to keep winning now. We have got to pile the pressure on Oxford right up until what I call it, ‘make or break it week.’ That way we will put ourselves in the best possible position until we play Oxford, Luton and AFC.

I for one believe we can do it, and tomorrow is just another stepping stone that could help us in our quest for the title.

Come on Boro!!

Next Up: Eastbourne Borough

<created>2010-03-02T14:11:00Z</created>

So tonight we are set to play Eastbourne away, what a crucial away game this could prove. They beat York at the weekend, which just shows they are not going to be a pushover by any means.

We were lucky with the results on Saturday, as both York and Luton dropped points. We have a chance tonight to pull away from them a bit more and what with the whole Chester fiasco we have just got to keep winning.

Oxford are at Cambridge tonight, and I never thought I would hear myself say this but, ‘come on Cambridge do us a favour!!’ It wouldn’t surprise me if Oxford found this tie a little tough. Cambridge are dangerously close to sitting in the relegation zone (how many of us would have said that would be the case last season?!?) so I am sure a win against Oxford or a draw against them is definitely on their agenda. Every point matters to them at the moment.

Luton are at Mansfield, which isn’t going to be an easy time for them either.

How good would it be to go to bed tonight knowing, we have won and both Luton and Oxford have dropped points. That would be pretty fine and dandy!

I have to admit that I was a bit worried about this fixture. Workington had already knocked out Wimbledon and Rushden, so they obviously are a good team to beat off.

I could barely follow the match on Saturday as I was installing a few things for my granddad on his comp. As a result I was on our Boro Live feature, which I have to say is making me increasingly superstitious. Every time I go on it, we either concede or lose, which worries me. I followed it on Saturday and we conceded, then I had to switch all the internet off and I tune in to find out we have scored 2 goals to win it. Now I may be reading a lot into this, but I am a superstitious person, so now I have the dilemma of whether I go on Boro Live anymore!

Either way, as long as we keep winning – I don’t mind!

Now on to Trophy matters…

I know some people will say that we shouldn’t really be giving it everything in the trophy because of our title hopes, but realistically why can’t we do both?

We had a disappointing result at Rushden, so to get a great win against Workington, would only boost the players confidence non? For Stacy to score two goals, after we went one nil down, and the second one in the dying stages of the match, surely that would give any player a boost?? Who doesn’t want to play at Wembley? And who doesn’t want to have a good day out at Wembley?

We have a big squad now, with lots of potential. I am one person for sure, that believes we can do both.

Our next match is tomorrow against Wrexham. That is not going to be an easy tie at all. Yes, they are not doing quite as well as expected, but we don’t exactly have the best record on their patch.

By the time we play them, Oxford would have played AFC too, and Luton against Histon. Hopefully we will be going into our fixture knowing Oxford and Luton have both dropped points, and we can fully capitalise on the situation.

Come on the Boro!

You little beauty!!!

<created>2010-02-10T08:53:00Z</created>

What a game to go to!! It was such a good night of football last night. Well, the latter stages of the night should I say.

Things didn’t start off too well as we went into the half time break one nil down to Mansfield. It was a goal out of nothing, and neither side seemed to be able to get going.

Things got a little heated before the break, after it seemed Ashton pushed a player after he was fouled. It brought the atmosphere up a bit, although it was annoying as both Chris and Ash got booked for their involvement.

After the break, the lads came out fired up. We had so much pressure it was unreal. We were just praying that it would pay off and it really did.

Yemi scored the first after the ball came out to him from a Stacy Long free kick, and he fired home, with a slight deflection on the way through. Finally we were back in it.

Annoyingly so, though, Oxford had gone one nil up at Luton. So we had to hold on to what we had and definitely push on to try and get the second. The main thing is we had to win.

For the second goal, Yemi was the scorer once again. The ball was whipped in by Long, and a shot by Sills was cleared off the line. It didn’t look like we going to get it in, until Yemi managed to fire in the rebound. It is safe to say we went a bit bonkers.

Another free kick to Boro and on came Andy Drury. First touch, dribbles it, set’s himself, and pulls out a left footed curler into the top left hand corner. Outstanding it was. Sheer class.

Suddenly we were 3-1 up, and looking very comfortable. This was brilliant.

Mansfield seemed to crumble, and their players getting booked needlessly. It eventually turned out that one of them was going to be sent off for his challenge on Yemi in the box. The penalty was rewarded, but sadly Yemi couldn’t manage to get his hat trick as the keeper saved his shot.

The best part of the night was yet to come though. Late late late on in the game (their 94th minute to be precise) Luton Town managed to get a goal back against Oxford to make it 1-1. We were top of the league! Excellent.

Luton though, wanted to make it even sweeter for us. They then scored AGAIN in the 97th minute to win the game 2-1!

The cheers ran out across the stadium, and a little song to thank them ensued… “2-1 to the Luton Town, 2-1…”

I don’t think I will forget last night. And to be honest I don’t think the Luton fans will in a hurry either.

Just want to say, thank you Boro, for getting us a great win, and thank you Luton. You little gems!!

Onwards and staying put J

What happened?

<created>2010-02-06T17:07:00Z</created>
Furious, absolutely furious. Can't believe we have lost. With Oxford drawing as well, such a missed opportunity.

I wasn't there to judge the sending offs, but for Murph to get two cards in such a short space of time you have got to raise a few questions?

Ten men down, we have a real chance to grab something from the game. 9 men, well it is a very tall order.

As a result of losing 1-0 to Tamworth, we are no longer top of the table. It is absolutely gutting.

With York winning, you have got to start worrying whether if we slip up again, they will put us in trouble.

I think I will be shaking my head for a long time tonight. All I can say is, spurs better win. Otherwise I am not going to be all that pleased this evening. And I suppose if there is any justice, at least Ox only got a draw.

We have to put this to one side now. That's it. Done. Move on and get winning again.

We cannot let this slip away...

Just keep scoring

<created>2010-02-01T09:18:00Z</created>

We just keep scoring at the moment. It is so good to see, that it is not only our strikers that are pulling their weight. Boro managed another 4-1 win on Saturday against Dover in the trophy. Goals from Yemi, Bozzi, Beardsley, and Sills sealed that win, even though we went a goal down.

Then last week, we beat Kettering 2-0 in the league with Stacy scoring 2.

What with the 6-0 win against Vauxhall Motors in the trophy before that with goals from Mark Roberts, Lee Boylan, David Bridges (two), Andy Drury and Stacy Long. I think it is safe to say we definitely have our scoring boots on!

We are still top in the league, with teams like Luton dropping points to Super Ebbs at the weekend, making it all the sweeter. We are flying high in the trophy, and things definitely look promising for the fans.

Next up we have Tamworth away in the league. Not an easy place to go to, but definitely winnable. It is hard not to get too confident at the moment, so I hope the lads don't become complacent. But to be honest, who wouldn't be confident with the way we are playing at the moment?

Absolutely brilliant.

Could we about to set foot onto the pitch?

<created>2010-01-19T12:58:00Z</created>

Now I don’t want to jinx it, but, I think Boro may be in action tonight for the first time in ages!

We are set to play Vauxhall Motors tonight in the FA Trophy. So far heavy rain has been forecast but no snow as of yet!

It will be good to get a game under our belts. We have been lucky in a sense that we haven’t got to play as many games as Luton and Wrexham, but the bad weather has been very frustrating to say the least. One good thing out of it though, was that we managed to stay top of the league without even playing at the weekend. Oxford lost to Tamworth so that is one of their games in hand gone! Woop!

The snow is due to come in again tomorrow apparently, so hopefully we can get the game of the way so the lads have had a bit of a run out.

Tonight, we, as in The Comet, are launching a new service too, where we will be streaming live updates from the game. So hopefully that all goes ok and it is a service we can provide you all for home and away games.

Tonight’s FA Trophy clash against Vauxhall Motors has been postponed and our away BSP match at Wrexham on Saturday is also rumoured to be heading in the same direction.

Wrexham have only played 22 games this season, so for them, another match to be called off, will throw another spanner in the works.

The adverse weather conditions that have taken its toll on football all across the country, has affected Wrexham quite badly. There are reports this morning that apparently the pitch is still frozen.

Was going to be watching Boro and then spurs on Sunday. I am beginning to get fed up with all this snow now. I know it looks very pretty but I don’t like it when all the fixtures begin to mount up. Luckily spurs and boro aren’t too bad.

But when you look at Luton and Wrexham, you do feel a bit for them. It could really play into our hands, but then at the same time if clubs have a good run at the end of the season it can make them feel confident and it could benefit them in some ways.

Not sure what I will fill my weekend with now that half the games have been called off, but guess I will have to figure that one out for myself.

Boro were very impressive over the winter break, by doing the double over Cambridge and in style too! And grabbing a point against Wimbledon.

I have to say our match at BHW (or the Lamex) for me showed how much Cambridge had changed since last season. They didn’t really threaten the ball and even though the first half was a little frustrating from our point of view, it must have been even worse for their fans.

I think the day was summed up when their own fans started to pretend that they had scored. I didn’t realise what all the cheers were in the crowd until I got home and on the radio they were talking about how the fans were reacting.

4-1 – absolute class. Not only do we put 4 past Cambridge, but Boylan scores twice against his own club, Pitt falls over twice trying to take corners, Long was outstanding andddd we are top of the league!!!

Happy days.

Then the day after that, I go to see spurs v Peterboro. Was great to see Boydy at the lane. To be honest he didn’t have a brilliant game, as he spent half of it defending, but it was good to see anyhow. And to be fair, their keeper was outstanding. We put 4 past them but it easily could have been 6 or 7.

I hope Peterboro stay up, I really do. They definitely have potential and there were a few spells in the game where they took control. But the difference was that when we then broke away, we scored, giving them little chance.

Not sure what sort of football we will have this week because of the snow, but to be honest, with spurs in fourth and boro top of the league, I am quite happy with where I am footballing wise at the moment!

Back on track

<created>2009-12-08T10:33:00Z</created>

Sorry for the delay in getting my blog online, was a bit of a hectic one yesterday.

Very pleased with Saturday’s result. It was a bit scrappy at times, but once the second goal went in you couldn’t really see Kiddi getting back from that.

I thought we could have scored more, but I was glad we kept a clean sheet.

Cole played better, and it certainly shows because he managed to score, and was getting back to help the team out in defence.

I thought Drury and Beardsley were amazing on Saturday. Neither of them gave up on a ball and were running all over the park. Drury was here there and everywhere – he really deserved a goal, as did Beardsley.

Albrighton came in and did a good job too. In fact you didn’t even notice he was there. He just got the job done – no mistakes whatsoever. For someone to come into the team the last two games and put in a performance like that really deserves some credit.

Boro have Ebbsfleet on Saturday in the Trophy, so hopefully we can push on and get through to the next round there. No doubt there will be a little bit of revenge in order after them only beating us in the league last week.

Come on the Boro!

What went wrong?

<created>2009-12-02T11:53:00Z</created>

I am still fuming from last night. I cannot believe we threw that game away. We had a chance, a real chance to go top.

Last night was one of the most topsy tervy football night’s for me ever. It started off swimmingly and then went completely pear shaped resulted in me being very mad.

To start off with, Boro were winning, spurs were playing well, Mansfield, Oxford both losing. Happy days.

Boro reach half time, very pleased with how things were going, the results were going our way. We were top.

Then it all went belly up. Spurs concede stupid goals and it spirals the end of my happiness. Boro go and concede two silly goals to Ebbsfleet. We are losing. Mansfield are winning. My only hope is that Oxford drop points too.

Spurs cannot score, and then it happens. Oxford equalise. Great. Cambridge get a late goal. And the Boro game finishes. We threw it away. Didn’t come out the second half apparently.

Then to top it all off, James Constable goes and scores in the 94th minute so Oxford win at Crawley!

What did I do wrong?

Such a missed opportunity. I only hope now that the lads can pick themselves up and push on, on Saturday. I would hate this to be the start of Dreadful December.

Luckily we are at home, so hopefully the crowd will at least give the lads a boost.

Getting the title now is very slim, but still do-able. I don’t hold out for much hope, but it is in me still so hopefully the players still believe.

If we can forget yesterday then we may as well have a shot.

Onwards and Upwards.

Come on the Boro!

<created>2009-12-01T19:26:00Z</created>

A little bit late in the day, but I just remembered I hadn't updated my blog today, and the superstitious person that I am has quickly come online in order to post before we play tonight.

Tonight is massive for us. If we win and Oxford lose/draw we will go top. How sweet would that sound?!

We are up against Ebbsfleet and they are up against Crawley, both away games. I really really really hope it goes our way tonight. And to round it off nicely would be for spurs to beat Man Utd tonight.

Now that would be the cherry on the cake.

Come on Boro, you can do it!!
