Hi there, is there anybody out there who attended the High School in Welwyn Garden City in the late 50´s. My name was Susan Mack and I was in the very first year of the new school - so new we had to lodge in Heronswood School for a while.
It would be great to make contact with anybody who may remember me.
I must admit that I do not recall your name, but I too was in the founding year of the The High School (at Herinswood) - I was in Miss Fletcher's class.
I was not in a particularly popular group of boys (namely Chistopher Harrison, Lionel Dodge, David Irving - not the famous one! and someone Forder), I also became friendly with a girl called Gillian Wardron.
I am married, have a grandson and have lived in Australia since 1966.
The only contact I have had with anyone from the The High School has been with Paul Griggs via email and we swapped school class photos - I still have the founding year all school photo - I would be happy to scan in and send if you do not possess one.
In 1975 I visited the school only to discover that the name had changed and that the Headmaster Mr Gilby had died the previous year.
It was the High School in Welwyn Garden City not Welwyn village. The school is now known as Sir Frederic Obsorne. I left there (I think it was so long ago) 1960 !!!
Hi there lovely to hear from you, it looks as if our year has spread its wings across the world. I do remember you but by your full name Timothy. I think I must have been in 1F as well as I well remember your friends as mentioned in your email. I think I then went on to 2W (Mr Windass).
I was house captain (St Patricks) and both class captain and prefect at various times. Yes I think I was probably a bit of a swot !!! I well remember Gillian Waldron as well. My closest friends were Janet Huggins, Christine Reeves, Lorraine Rowland do any of these names ring a bell with you.
Sometime ago I found a Michael Chambers on this same website but it turned out it wasn´t the same Michael as also attended the High School.
We have two daughters and four grandchildren and whilst my husband James and I really enjoy our life in Spain I do miss the daily contacft with the grandchildren. We have been in Spain for four years now how about you in Australia.
I still my all my reports and the programmes from the sports days but I do not have the first year photo. I would love to see it and then I can tell you which face is mine!!! I have only just today received your comments but I notice you posted them last years. If I enclose my email address you could contact me directly.
Incidentally if you recall Christine Reeves she was over here on holiday last week. My email is
Hi Susan - not sure which year my brother was in at the High School, could have been the first year or perhaps the second, but this is just to let anyone know who remembers him that Michael Laurence Halliday BOSTLE unfortunately died recently. He had been living for some years in Cleveleys, near Blackpool and had had various health problems. He died in the Blackpool Victoria Hospital on 7 March 2008 from pneumonia. I recognise some of the names in the posts here, so am pretty sure some may remember Michael. As his only other sibling, I was a little older, so was a pupil at WGC Grammar School from 1955 - 1960. I would love to know if anyone remembers Michael. Jacki
Hola Jacki, I was very sorry to read that your brother had recently died. He was in the same year as myself and I well remember him. Sorry for the delay in replying to your text but life here in Spain has been somewhat busy of late with lots of visitors. Once again my condolences to you. Sue Lynch (nee Mack)
I was so very sorry to hear about the death of your brother Michael as I remember him well. I was also in his class at school IF and like Susan Mack (who I also remember) was in his class with Mr. Windass. I last met Michael in the eighties when, after I married, I moved to Tewin and for a while Michael was working in the Rose and Crown and I remember we all dressed up for a New Years Eve fancy dress party.
I have followed a career in music that continues to this day and which you can read about on my web site www.paulgriggs.com . There is a Welwyn Garden City section on Friends Reunited on which there is posted a photo of Mr. Windass' class which includes Michael. I still see some of the old pupils occasionally the most recent being Brian Winter who regularly meets up with Don McKean the Science teacher.
Hi Paul, lovely to read your letter. Good to hear you are still involved with music I well remember you and Mike with your skiffle group all those years ago at the High School and of course Guys & Dolls. I have a tenuous link with Brian Winter as my younger daughter is friends with Lou married to Ade (Brian´s son). If you do meet up with Don McKean please, please pass on my best wishes to him, he along with Mr Bull (History) were my favourite teachers. I remember clearly the day Don McKean started out on the "birds and bees" lesson.
Best wishes from a very sunny and hot Spain (didn´t they do well in the football)
My name is Tony Harmsworth and I was at the wgc high in 1960 to 1964 when we moved to Cornwall.
I remember Wayne Terrett, Brewerton (andrew?), maureen church, hazel carter, peter hazel, anne hudson (what a stunner), Richard Phelps, Carol Pridmore, Vaughn Williams and others. What happened to french teacher Mr Hill, use to think he was great fun? Anyone know any of these names?
I'm now a tour operator and Loch Ness expert. Google me.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Used to live at 59 Bushy Ley.
Hello Jacki - now I am sure you remember me - Kay, married to Les who has a brother out there on the Costas. Well I was sorry to hear that Michael has died, I can't have bumped in to Queenie lately otherwise I would have known. Of course he was always Micky to us girls and we were quite chummy with him during the Coffee Pot era. I remember your parents being adamant that he was referred to as Michael and not Micky. We are hoping to visit Les's friends in Australia next year Dave and Hazel - how time flies. Best Wishes to you. Kay
Hello Sue - I remember you and your Dad,who worked at The Shredded Wheat. Are you still in Spain? Last time I bumped in to you must have been in Morrisons or some other shop in WGC. I keep in touch with Karen (Harris) Sue (Rogers) Yvonne (Scorah) and have occasional contact with Joan (Wren). There are a few locally that like yourself I have met while out and about the area. My husband remembers Jim from work. Hope life is treating you well, best regards...Kay (Drury)
