I would like to start tracing my antecedents but frankly am at a loss as to where to start.

I’m reasonably certain the family name Cross is a Hertfordshire name but beyond my own family group to my dads parents I wouldn’t know where to start.

My dad’s parents had run a pub the Rose and Crown in Tylers Causeway near Newgate Street up until around the late 1950’s early 1960’s and are buried at St. Mary church Essendon,
