HERTFORD choristers were among 180 singers who performed to 17,000 footy fans, and Ant and Dec.
Rock Choir performed to its largest ever audience at Watford Football Club for the game against Newcastle, on February 27.
Some 180 choir members from Hertford, Watford and St. Albans Rock Choirs joined forces to sing to the thousands of fans, and Geordie I’m A Celebrity duo Ant and Dec, who were there supporting their beloved Magpies.
Members of the choir are from all walks of life, from age 10 to 80, and only joined Rock Choir last September. Many of them have no singing experience prior to joining the choir and have never sung in public before. Singing feel-good pop songs they had the crowds up on their feet during half-time.
Abigail Smith, Rock Choir leader, said: “This was the first time all three choirs have sung together and hearing the rich sound that they created was just fantastic. Their confidence has grown so much since they nervously started back in September. Now we are all on such a high and I am so proud of them. The Watford fans were brilliant, what a great audience to perform to and we have received so many emails from them thanking us for cheering them up at half-time and making it a real event.”
Catherine Wells, a 30-year-old housewife, joined Rock Choir in January with no singing experience and was selected to perform a solo on the Mamma Mia medley. She said: “Before joining Rock Choir I had only sung in the shower, but my daughter started singing in the choir and I thought I would give it a go. Now my mum has joined the choir too.
Established in 2005, Rock Choir is the largest contemporary choir in the UK.
It offers the general public an opportunity to sing pop, gospel, Motown and chart songs, without the need for previous singing experience.
