STAFF at Welwyn Garden City’s Blockbuster have been told their jobs are at risk after the company went into administration this afternoon (Wednesday).
The firm, which has a branch in Howardsgate, has appointed administrators Deloitte, which says it is hopeful of saving the business.
Staff in the store were told not to comment on the announcement this afternoon.
It follows the announcement on Monday that fellow entertainment firm HMV was going into administration.
A statement from Deloitte’s Lee Manning said: “The core of the business is still profitable and we will continue to trade as normal in both retail and rental whilst we seek a buyer for all or parts of the business as a going concern.”
A Blockbuster branch in Hatfield closed in 2011.
The firm has 528 stores across the UK, but has struggled to compete with internet rivals.
